Im just trying to upgrade to El Capitan and not to Snow Leopard. So if there is a way to skip Snow Leopard and go directly to El Capitan ignore all the other stuff written below. (Important NVRAM and RAM Updates are included in Snow Leopard that are required by OS X El Capitan).

There must be a version available for download for the OS that was the current macOS until 6 months ago.Ĭreate bootable CD / USB-Stick with Snow Leopard on it, from a dmg file Read first: What should I do to get GB installed on my Catalina MBP?! When launching, it automatically opens a window to complete the installation and starts downloading 1,6GB of updates which then fails at around 80% as *drum roll* I need macOS 11 to run it. 6.0.5 from my previous purchases which then downloaded successfully and was added to my Launchpad. I then tried to (as some have hinted) boot from my old drive with High Sierra installed to download it fresh there - it did not work either as macOS 11 is required. 6.0.5 from my previous purchases in Catalina, but the "open" button doesn't work. The issue now is that I can't download GB as I need Big Sur (MBP not compatible) and I don't get the option to download the latest compatible version in AppStore.

Before you can install your new Yosemite OS, you will need to erase your existing hard drive. The installer will launch a minimal OS containing a restore application menu. Select your “Install OS X Yosemite” USB drive. When the OS comes up, it will prompt you for which hard drive to boot from. This will put your Mac into Restore mode. Restart your Mac holding the “Option” key. Sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia -volume /Volumes/USB -applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app The command assumes that the installer is already in your Applications folder, and USB is the name of the USB flash drive you're using (as directed above. Now you are ready to create a bootable USB startup disk containing the Yosemite MacOS installer. It will install an app named “Install OS X Yosemite” in your Applications folder.

It just installs the installation application so that you can run the installer. Your web browser will download the Yosemite installer as a disk image named InstallOS.dmg or InstallMacOSX.dmg. This next step does not actually install the MacOS. Scroll down to the Yosemite link and click on it. The App Store will automatically check what MacOS you are running, and download an older, compatible version.
